Kait's Escape

I like to read about ass kicking and happily ever after.

Sweet Stuff - Donna Kauffman Totally my favorite of the four. Big sloppy dog and OMG I <3 Quinn. Two words: Spiderman bandaids. LOVE.
Writing Steampunk! - Beth Daniels Fabulous resource.
Babycakes - Donna Kauffman He got her a big sloppy puppy. <3
Sugar Rush - Donna Kauffman Absolutely loved this! Witty, funny, hit all my happy buttons relating to my love of food, and definitely broke a LONG streak of less than satisfying reads.
One Perfect Night - Bella Andre This book was total Cheez Whiz. Not even real cheese. There is a meet cute and sexy times and the barest threads of a plot to hold it together. The hero felt like a chick in a man suit. It wasn't BAD, but it was predictable and shallow.
The Return of Rafe MacKade - Nora Roberts Little bit dated, but still good.
The Politically Incorrect Guide to the Civil War (The Politically Incorrect Guides) - H. W. Crocker III Enjoyable and intelligent account.
Dying Bites - D.D. Barant I really loved the concept of this book, and I was 100% on board until about the last third when the author took a hard left turn from where I expected it to go. The ACTUAL direction the book went wasn't bad, was a mostly satisfying ending, but was definitely dissonant from my expectations. I liked Jace (and the audiobook narrator was good), and I'm curious to see where the series goes, so I'll at least go on to the next one.
Sea Change - Aimee Friedman I really struggled with what to rate this book. The prose was fine, I liked the heroine, and yet it wasn't at ALL what I expected from the summary. I kept thinking it would be a very obvious romance with a merman (and maybe a selkie, as much is made of the heroine's formerly webbed toes), so when I got to the end and the paranormal/fantasy aspect was never confirmed, never followed up on (I was SURE it would be a seal pelt in that trunk...), I found myself incredibly disappointed. Everything about the summary implies fantasy--not a contemporary YA romance set on an island that happens to have a lot of mythological sort of history. In the end, for a contemporary YA romance, it was sweet, and fun, with a nice setting. It just wasn't what I wanted.
The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You're Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are - Brené Brown As a lifelong perfectionist, this book REALLY spoke to me. I found it very "sticky" and thought provoking.

Hunted (The Flash Gold Chronicles, #2)

Hunted - Lindsay Buroker Ah ha! Romance is in the air in this charming next adventure with Cedar and Kali. The plot thickens with more machines, more villains, and more snark. A great next installment.

Dis (An Urban Midgard Short Story)

Dis - Margo Lerwill Tight and concise, nice worldbuilding. Looking forward to others.

Frosted - Wendy Sparrow Positively delightful. More please!
Bad Boys in Kilts - Donna Kauffman In this compilation of three novellas, I really enjoyed the first one, which paired up some friends turned something more quite believably. The other two, while quirky and amusing (I really loved the town and its inhabitants) really pushed the bounds of my believability, resorting to Insta-love/lust that just didn't work for me. Still, the characters were a lot of fun, the love scenes steamy. I just wish there'd been a bit more emotional development to support said actions.
Home in Time for Christmas - Heather Graham I found Melody really annoying as a heroine. I have the audio version, so I didn't notice the typos many other reviewers complained of, but in general, the fact that she didn't just break it off clean with before the story even started made me frown on her actions through the rest of the book. I have no patience for those who dilly dally with such things.
